Iomega Confidential 3 Overview of the StorCenter ix4-200d The StorCenter ix4-200d uses an updated Lifeline kernel. This is a custom OS that is developed by EMC specifically for NAS units. This update brings in additional features to make the ix-Series product line more robust. Due to these customizations, no source code will be made available. StorCenter ix4-200d begins the next generation of desktop NAS devices. Features of the ix4-200d will continue on new ix-Series devices moving forward. Including a larger processor, more memory and updated features. The StorCenter ix4-200d replaces the StorCenter ix The device is intended to replace the existing ix4-100 with larger memory capacity, more support options and a faster processor. The form-factor has been made smaller and maintains a more polished, professional look.

Bluetooth USB dongle support –Allow for connecting to Bluetooth storage devices. (e.g. transfer files from phone, computer, etc.) Public share browser interface – Remote Access –Offering the ability to browse folder structures from within the web interface. Video Surveillance – now supporting up to 4 cameras –Offering the ability to link into a network capable camera and stream and capture to the ix4-200d. (Axis Series Cameras supported) File search –With the additional of the in-web file browsing, the ability to search for specific files is also available. UPS Aware –Allows for write caching (high-performance write setting) for UPS attached ix4-200d. –Perform a safe shutdown before UPS battery dies.

Iomega Confidential 6 New StorCenter ix4-200d Features (Lifeline 2.1) RSYNC Functionality –RSYNC provides a fast and efficient methods of maintaining incremental backups. LCD Panel Support –See errors, notifications and activity in real time through an LCD panel on the front of the device. Dual NIC (first desktop NAS supporting two NICs) –Support for NIC Teaming and NIC Bonding 4 customer accessible Cold Swap hard drives –Cold Swap requires the device to be off in order to swap drives. Quick Transfer button –Using the LCD interface and USB, connect a device and quickly copy over a predetermined set of folders as a quick way to back up essential files. Gigabit Network Performance Improvements –Improved CPU means improved network performance and transfer rates! First desktop NAS to support iSCSI capabilities

Iomega Confidential 7 Understanding the StorCenter ix4-200d Deleting from the StorCenter ix4-200d Web Interface: –The Web Interface delete performs a secure delete. It will overwrite the files multiple times to make sure the data cannot be retrieved. (Similar to a DOD-level wipe.) –Using the Web Interface delete function may take a long time depending on the size of disk. Formatting or Reconfiguring the StorCenter ix4-200d: –In order for format the ix4-200d, you need to delete and remove all folders before performing a reformat or RAID reconfiguration. –It is recommended to attach to the device through a network source and delete the files through the file system and not through the web interface file browser. Using Retrospect with the StorCenter ix4-200d: –After installing the Retrospect Application, you can find and select the ix4-200d device and set it as a backup destination with your log on information. This connection is managed by the Network Manager.

Iomega Confidential 8 Understanding the StorCenter ix4-200d (…) Formatting or Reconfiguring the StorCenter ix4-200d: –In order to access the troubleshooting area of the ix4-200d: Connect to the device with using the device’s IP Address. Change the URL by replacing the words home.html with support.html. Press enter to load the advanced troubleshooting features. NOTE: There is no direct link to the support.html from the web interface. Connecting to an ADS Domain: –To join an ADS domain, you must go to Settings > Network Services > CIFS to start the process. –Logs for ADS Domain Joins can be found in the above mentioned support.html Location. Bluetooth USB Adapter support: –Bluetooth USB Adapter support does not have an official list yet, but all adapters used on it so far have been successfully detected. –You will be able to pair any storage-capable device to the ix4- 200d and transfer information to the share.

Iomega Confidential 9 Understanding the StorCenter ix4-200d (…) The LCD panel can help with troubleshooting –Displaying the device’s current IP Address. –Give notifications or warnings on the LCD if something is not working correctly. –Will report disk failures and target which disk(s) is/are no longer working. –Display the percentage full. User Accessible, Cold Swappable Hard Drives –The user may troubleshoot, remove and replace hard drives themselves due to the ease of opening the device. –Basic steps for disk replacement: Reference the LCD for which drive has currently failed Turn off the device Replace the failed drive Turn the device on Device will reinitialize and report its progress on the LCD screen
