 88% of our energy is powered by fossil fuels.  Coal: 21%  Oil: 37%  Natural gas: 25% Fast Facts

How fossil Fuels work

Coal is crushed and then burnt. Oil and natural gas can be burnt directly. How fossil fuels work

 Safe and affordable for cooking and heating.  Very large amounts of coal can be generated in one place.  Transporting oil and gas is easy. Advantages

The main problem with fossil fuels is pollution. Burning any fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, witch causes global climate change. Burning coal produces more carbon dioxide than burning oil and gas. It also produces sulphur oxide ( or acid rain) Disadvantages

No, fossil fuels produce a large amount of pollution, burning any type of fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, which takes part in global warming. Is it good for the environment?

Non- renewable, once burned there is NOT any more. That’s a problem for oil, because it is used for plastic. Renewable or non- renewable

Yes, it would be very easy to use this energy in Pittsburgh, because of all the coal mines, and the Marcellus shale layers of natural gas. Could you use your energy in Pittsburgh?

Fossil Fuels are not a renewable resource. Once we have used all of it, there will be no more left, every twenty years since 1900, we consumed nearly twice as many fossil fuels. The future
