Aboriginal Ambassadors in the Natural Sciences and Engineering Supplement Program (AANSE) AANSE supplements aim to engage Aboriginal students and fellows in promoting interest and participation in the natural sciences and engineering. Candidates visit Canada’s Aboriginal communities and schools to share their research and education experiences or participate in science promotion events and activities. Applicants must hold an USRA, Vanier CGS, Alexander Graham Bell CGS, PGS, PDF, IPS, IRDF or Northern Research Internship.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Tri-Agency program supporting students who achieved outstanding success in their studies and who will pursue a doctoral program in a Canadian University $50,000 / yr for 24 or 36 months Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, International citizens Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian University where they will pursue doctoral studies. Contact the university’s Faculty of Graduate Studies Can only be held at nominating university (non-transferable) Target : 500 active Vanier scholarships (167 scholarships for the 2009 competition, divided equally among the three agencies)

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships At the university selection stage, students may submit concurrent applications to NSERC Vanier CGS, and CGS/PGS (if eligible) Students nominated by university for a Vanier CGS must immediately contact NSERC, and the university where the CGS/PGS application was submitted, and withdraw the latter Two-tier review process: Agency specific selection committee, and high level Vanier Selection Board Following NSERC selection committee review, NSERC Vanier CGS nominees not recommended to Vanier Selection Board will be offered an Alexander Graham Bell CGS, if eligible Deadline: November 14, Results to be announced in May 2009

Canada Graduate Scholarships Foreign Study Supplements Program (CGS-FSS) Supports high-calibre graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences at research institutions outside of Canada. Supplements of up to $6000 to help cover the costs of a research study period abroad (4-6 months). Universities to be allocated a certain number of supplements based on the number of CGS and Vanier and CGS held at that university A total of 187 awards will be available in 2008  52 per cent SSHRC,  32 per cent NSERC and  16 per cent CIHR

CGS-FSS Only for Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada Recipients must hold active CGS M, CGS D or Vanier CGS One application form for all three agencies (to come) Deadline for submitting applications to the granting agencies: December 10, From 2009 onward, the deadline will be May 15

Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships (IPS) Gain work experience while completing a graduate degree Collaboration between university, student and host organization No NSERC deadline Quick application turn around $21K minimum for Master’s level - more than PGSM/CGSM ($17K) NEW: FOREIGN STUDENTS MAY APPLY

IPS Agreement Must cover duration of scholarship Company's commitment ($6,000/year minimum) Intellectual property rights Student’s time at company (minimum average of 50 days/year) No delay in degree granting due to confidentiality issues

NSERC/MITACS Scholarship A collaboration with MITACS, a Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) that conducts research in the mathematical sciences Combines features of the NSERC Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship (IPS) program and the MITACS Internship Program Offers more funding than the IPS alone Graduate student will receive $22,500/year as a scholarship Supervisor will receive the remaining $7,500/year

Summer Programs in Japan or Taiwan

CREATE Collaborative Research And Training Experience Grants for groups of researchers who will deliver training programs to outstanding students and postdoctoral fellows Aim to facilitate the transition of new researchers to the Canadian workforce These innovative programs aim to provide collaborative and integrative training experiences, and will encourage one or more of the following:  Acquisition and development of important professional and personal skills  Student mobility nationally and internationally  Interdisciplinary research within the NSE, or at the interface between the NSE and health and/or social sciences and humanities

Collaborative Research And Training Experience (CREATE) Eligibility Majority of the group must be from NSE fields Funding Six years (Year 1: up to $150,000, Years 2-6: up to $300,000 annually) At least 80 per cent of funds spent on stipends to HQP Up to 30 per cent of which may be for students not enrolled in NSE fields Research training experience can target any trainee level Undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows
