Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Masters Scholarships $17,500 for 12 months nonrenewable Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Doctoral Awards and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships $35,000 for 36 months, $20,000 for up to 48 months Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Doctoral) $50,000 per year, for up to 36 months CGS - Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements $6,000 maximum Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Masters Scholarships have a quota of business-related research. The Vanier CGS Doctoral Scholarships deadline date is September 30, 2009 for Memorial. Applicants who applied for a Vanier should also apply for the SSHRC CGS/Doctoral Fellowships to optimize their chances of being successful. Of course, one must be a Canadian or Permanent Resident to apply for a SSHRC. If a nominee is not successful in receiving a Vanier, he/she will not automatically considered for a SSHRC CGS D. The CGS –Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements are available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents who hold a CGS M/D or the Vanier. The supplement will cover costs associated with travel, living and other expenses (such as accommodation, meals, tuition, insurance and other necessary costs) during the research study abroad for a period up to six months. Recipients must hold an active award at the time the study period abroad starts.

3 To be eligible for a J. A. Bombardier CGS M Scholarship you must:
be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at the time of application be pursuing your first master’s degree or have registered in the first or second year of the Master’s portion of a combined MA/PhD Program have achieved first-class standing in each of the last 2 years of full-time study or equivalent have completed no more than 12 months at the graduate level by the start date of the award may be pursuing a degree program that combines undergraduate and graduate degrees. (NEW) not be applying in this academic year to NSERC or CIHR or received an award for the master’s level of study from NSERC or CIHR be in or starting a degree program that includes significant research training. Eligibility of the degree program would be demonstrated by the completion of a thesis, major paper, project, publication, performance, recital or exhibit; and/or completing course work in research methods and/or statistics appropriate for the discipline; and/or acquiring knowledge and experience sufficient to conduct, assess and interpret research and scholarship in the field.

4 You are eligible to apply for a SSHRC/CGS Doctoral Fellowship if you:
are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at the time of application will be pursuing your first PhD degree in the social sciences and humanities or if you are currently registered in a combined MA/PhD program or a fast-track program (New) and have or will have completed more than 12 months of graduate studies at the proposed start date of the award are in a degree program that includes significant original, autonomous research that leads to the completion of a dissertation, major scholarly publication, performance, recital, or exhibit, which is peer-reviewed at the institutional level will not be applying in this academic year to NSERC or CIHR have not received other funding from SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR for a previous doctoral degree are pursuing a degree program that combines undergraduate and graduate degrees. (New) are or will be registered as a direct entry doctoral candidate. (New)

Outline the objectives of your research, the context, methodology, and contribution to the advancement of knowledge If your program does not involve a thesis, major research paper/essay, or a major research project, outline clearly the research training component of the degree If it is relevant to your research proposal, describe any work experience, community involvement or other extracurricular activity

CGS M Applicants: Doctoral Applicants: Please Note -> Referees must be faculty members who have had sufficient opportunity to assess your research potential, and, if applicable, the importance of your publication. If completing a Master’s degree, one letter of appraisal must be from your Master’s supervisor (or equivalent). If currently in a doctoral program and have a supervisor, one letter of appraisal must be from your doctoral thesis supervisor. If you don’t have a supervisor, obtain a letter of appraisal from a faculty member who have had sufficient opportunities to access your potential, at the bachelor’s or Master’s level.
