Community Relationship Building CCS has extensive relationships with business and professional sectors. CCS and CAP have established strong relationships with First Nations in our region. For many community members, CCS may be the face of VIU.

Focus on First Nations Learners A preparatory program and partnership between VIU, CSETS, House of Friendship and Cowichan Tribes All 17 graduates enrolled in VIU Trades programs

Includes: Adult Basic Education: High School equivalent courses in English, Math, Sciences and Computer skills Literacy: Math and English courses for students who are entering at a fundamental skills level. Volunteer Tutor Program, providing training to volunteer literacy tutors, and matching and supporting tutor/learner pairs. Started in Adult Basic Education Sophie Lee enrolled in VIU’s nursing degree after completing ABE courses. Dr. Tanya Griffiths credits her ABE experience at the Cowichan Campus for encouraging her to pursue a career in science. After completing her Biology degree at VIU, she completed her PhD at UBC.

Adult Basic Education Ryan Glover enrolled in ABE without a place to live, recovering from a meth addiction. Now, clean for 5 years, Ryan is helping people on the street turn their lives around through education.
