Step 1: Analyse the application. Identify any key questions for competency conversation. Step 5: Identify any practical activities required to confirm competency Observe practical activity Step 7: Identify areas where 3rd party verification is needed and inform candidate. Step 3: Conduct competency conversation Step 2: Record results of analysis in table at end of application Step 4: Complete the Record of Conversation sheets during the competency conversation Step 6: Complete Practical Assessment Tasks Observation Sheets Step 8: Receive completed Third party reports Confirm / Verify 3 rd party reports * Remember RPL assessment is an accumulative process of collecting evidence.  Request for verification and legitimacy  This is done through :  Requesting Resume and currency of workplace  Supporting documents including third party reports  Questioning / Conversation  When gaps are found, then the practical component can be demonstrated

 Question 1:Discuss how you have communicated with staff and clients in order to build trusting relationships. How have you ensured all staff have communicated effectively and worked to minimise conflict situations within the workplace?  Question 2:Give examples of situations where you have participated in internal and external forums where you represented your organisation/ team. Consider examples when you have had to research and present information (verbal and/or written) which promotes the organisation.  KEY POINTS  The candidate’s response should evidence the following  INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS  These must be evidenced in the candidate’s response  Indicate if response addresses KP and IR  COMMENTS  Record other key points and examples from conversation.  Identify whether a practical assessment is warranted.  Question 1  Workplace policy and procedures Cross-cultural protocols  Conflict resolution  Empathy  Crisis intervention  Group processes  Legislation  Rights of individuals  Duty of care  Ethics 

 PRACTICAL TASKS   Candidates are not required to complete all tasks. The Assessor is to select tasks after considering available evidence collected through previous phases and according to the context and needs of each candidate

Identify appropriate communication strategies to meet the needs of clients and colleagues and build strong relationships  1.1Specific communication needs of clients and colleagues are identified including:  - Utilising techniques and aids  - Translation and language interpreters  - Cultural interpreters  - Referral to specialists  1.2Identify areas of mistrust or conflict that may require conflict resolution  1.3Identify the need to include additional people including trusted friends, case workers, family members or adults

 The assessor will complete the paperwork and have it checked. If the assessor has enough evidence of the required skills and knowledge they will find you “competent” and issue a Statement of Attainment.  If the assessor has not been able to find the required evidence they will find you “not yet competent” they will talk to you and send you a letter letting you know what additional training you might need.  You will be informed of the final decision and a letter or Statement of Attainment will be sent to you  Tick off as you complete  Listen to the feedback from the assessor  Provide any extra information or evidence they require  Receive your Statement of Attainment or begin the appeals process if you feel the process  has not been fair  Please make and keep a copy (for your own records) of any documents that you send to the  Assessor. 
