Organize Your Own Community Clean Up

Choose a Clean-Up Site  Clean-up sites may include:  City parks  National parks  Rivers and/or streams  Adopt-a-block  Beach  Consider partnering with an environmental organization in the area, this may make coordinating an entire event easier

Volunteers and Resources Choose an appropriate date Identify the number of volunteers you will need – consider creating a recruitment goal Determine needed resources How will you dispose of trash, recyclables, and organic material that is collected? Will volunteers need special gloves or tools?

Sharing the Details  What will your volunteers need to know?  How this benefits the community  Date (alternative date in case of inclement weather  Time event starts (as well as length of event)  Location and directions  Registration information  Appropriate clothing  Contact person for questions  Refreshment offerings if available

Informing the Public Identify which community or communities you are targeting Create one-pagers and/or brochures to be left at grocery stores, gas stations, local businesses, etc. Create a website of Facebook page that includes all event details

During Your Event Remember to take photos of the event Be sure to let folks know if this is going to be an annual event Acknowledge anyone who may have donated items such as food or supplies
