 Measurements is a mathematic tool that people use everyday. Measurements are used when determining the length, weight, or capacity of an object LengthWeight/MassCapacity 1 inch=2.54 cm1 ounce=28.4g1 fluid ounce=29.6 ml 1 foot=0.305 m1pound=0.454 kg 1 quart=0.946l 1 yard=0.914 m1 gallon=3.79l 1 mile =1.61km

 Step 1: set up conversion using the metric systems table and place like units on the same side us the is/of = part/whole setup.  Step 2: Draw a triangle around the measurements you do have. Multiply the two corners then divide by the middle number.  Step 3: Solve to find the missing part

Convert measurements us the metric system table on previous slide. 6 quarts = liters grams = ounces

14 feet = meters 7 liters= quarts

Yolanda’s Office is 12 feet long by 8 feet wide. She plans to purchase carpet for the entire office. The carpet costs $15 per square meter. What will be the total cost of the new carpet? *First find the area of the office in square meters.

A flower bed is 6 feet wide and 10 feet long. What is the area of the flower bed in square meters? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

1. Ruler is 12 inches long. What is the length of this ruler in centimeters? 2. A bottle contains 4 fluid ounces of medicine. About how many milliliters of medicine are in the bottle? 3. Miguel rode 19 miles on his bicycle. About how many kilometers did he ride?

1. 20 yards= meters ounces= grams 3. 5 quarts= liters inches= centimeters feet= meters
