Mid-Year Expectations Review At Bethel Jr. High School

These are General Expectationsat BJH Your teachers will review specific expectations in their classes with you.

Expectations with Substitute Teachers These are guest teachers. You are expected to be on your best behavior with guests. Consequences for misbehavior with a substitute will be scaled higher.

Attendance We expect you here everyday. Most of you have new teachers. You need to aware of what your teachers consider being tardy. We expect you to be in your room when the bell rings--Your teachers may expect more. You’re doing a good job of being in class on time. We will have tardy sweeps each day.

Hallway Behavior We have over 700 students here at BJH. Don’t stand in groups blocking the hallway. No standing between classes-KEEP MOVING. If you are loitering, you will be issued lunch detention or after-school detention Except during passing period, all students must have a teacher’s hall pass to be in the hallway— even during lunches! Stop Yelling! The hallways are too loud. Keep your voices down. Don’t run in the halls! The hugging has to stop. Keep Your hands to yourself.

Hallways During Lunch Our main building hallways are closed during lunches. No one may be in the hallways during lunches without a pass. Students at lunch must be outside or in the cafeteria. The cafeteria hallway is off-limits except for bathrooms and vending machines.

Food and Drink Food and drink are not allowed in hallways, courtyards or classrooms even unopened. Food and drink outside the cafeteria will be confiscated or thrown away Water—not sports drinks-- is allowed in some classrooms-check with each of your teachers

Electronic Devices Leave electronic devices at home. Radios, MP3 players (IPods), cameras and other items will be confiscated if they are seen or heard—this includes headphones/earbuds. The first time they are confiscated, you can pick it up after school in the office. Second time- parent can pick it up after school and progressive discipline is given.

Cell Phones We understand that many of your parents want you to have a cell phone. We expect cell phones to be off and put away when at school. If we see, hear or find them, they will be confiscated. We are not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones.

Dress Code BJH’s Dress Code is based on a “No- Show” zone. See the diagram below.

Dress Code, cont. Shirts must cover the midriff area and shoulder. All shirts must have a shoulder strap of 4-finger measurement. Neck lines must have no more than a 4-finger measurement from the throat. Pants must be pulled up so no undergarments are visible. Shorts and skirts- maximum 3 inches above the knee—even if you are wearing leggings or jeans underneath. No holes in clothing above the knees unless they are patched. Students come in all shapes and sizes, and fashions change throughout the year. We reserve the right to determine the appropriateness of clothing on a student-by- student and fashion-by-fashion basis.

Hats & Hoods Most of you are doing a good job taking your hats and hoods off in the building. Please don’t carry your hats around with you during the day. Please put them in your locker.

Student Planners Planners are required of all students. Expected to have in class everyday. Used to keep track of learning targets, assignments and to stay organized

Bullying/Harassment/ Intimidation We have a zero-tolerance policy concerning Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation at BJH. Counselors have been in your classrooms to discuss this topic in greater detail. If you bully, you will be suspended.

Inappropriate Language: A form of bullying/harassment Swearing or vulgar language or any negative language referring to gender, race, sexual orientation or religion WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT ALL, ANY TIME, ANY WHERE AT BJH. Use of this language will result in removal from BJH.

Immediate Removal from BJH Drug or alcohol use or possession, Fighting/assault Disrespect/insubordination to an adult in our building

After School School Dismisses at 2:00 All students must be out of the building or with their supervising teacher, coach or other adult by the 2:05 bell. Students still milling/visiting/loitering in the hallway at 2:05 will be issued lunch detention

Be Part of the Solution If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. E.g. taking pictures at a fight, stirring things up with other students, creating “drama,” knowingly being around inappropriate behavior. If you are part of the problem, you will be disciplined accordingly.
