OVERVIEW Singaporeans used 3 billion plastic bags in 2011 that is 1.6 bags per person per day It takes millions of tonnes of crude oil and natural gas to produce them It takes years for a HDPE plastic bag to degrade EnglandUSAAustralia 0.36~ 10.5 Key challengeOur proposal Reduce the number of bags used by making each bag count Influence consumer behaviour away from indiscriminate use of plastic bags

KEY FEATURES OF THE PROTOTYPE 1.Calculates the optimum number of bags required based on characteristics of the purchase such as weight, type, etc. 2.Charges the customer for bags used in excess of the optimum number 3.Rewards them for using fewer than optimum number of bags
