School Based Scholarships WVSS

Types of Awards Provincial: Rewards graduating students for academic excellence in their Provincial exams and assists in post secondary education Dogwood District/Authority: Rewards excellence in chosen non- academic fields and assists in post secondary education

Types of Awards cont. Bursary: A non-repayable grant awarded to a student in need of financial assistance who has maintained a satisfactory academic record University Scholarships: Available only to students who are proceeding from Grade 12 to the awarding university

Types of Awards cont. Secondary School Apprenticeship Scholarship: Rewards students training in a chosen trade area Passport to Education: Recognizes and rewards students for achievement in Grades 10 through12

Passport To Education Recognition and reward for student achievement from Grades Grade 10: $250 Grade 11: $250 Grade 12: $500 Includes 2/3 academic achievement and 1/3 non academic ( effort, work habits, citizenship, school/community involvement)

Types of Awards cont. External: Open to WVSS students and funded and selected by an organization School Based: Funded by an organization and granted through the school; some are APPLIED FOR BY STUDENTS and some are NOMINATED BY STAFF

School Based Scholarships *** To be considered for any scholarship, either by nomination or application, students must have completed the following: 1. Student Profile 2. Three Teacher Reports 3. Service forms for all school and community extra curricular involvement 4. Optional: Letters of recommendations

School Based Application Forms 1. Download the Application Form APPLICATION 2. Complete the demographics on top and sign the form. 3. Check off only those awards for which you qualify (read the criteria carefully). 4. Complete any necessary items in the Additional Requirements column.

Selection Process Requested teacher reports will be put into your file along with transcripts and attendance reports Departments/teachers may access files to make decisions about department /program awards

Selection process cont. Scholarship subcommittees are organized to review all potential award winners Recommendations are put forward to the large school scholarship committee to make final selections

School Based Application Procedure Hand in the following items by NOON,MONDAY, MARCH 3 rd (NO LATES): 1. Completed application form 2. Student Profile 3. Service forms 4. Any reference letters (Completed teacher reports will go directly to Mrs Verdicchio, counselling assistant)
