Putting it all together I’ve got my facts- now what?
Sorting Fact Cards Think about your topic and the purpose of your paper. Your cards need to be separated into paragraphs. You will need to make a stack for each separate idea you plan to use (think about your essential questions). You will also need a junk pile for those that don’t fit anywhere else!
Internal Citations If you identify the author within the text, you do not need to put his/her name again in the citation. –In How to Pass Comp II, M Copp recommends that the student should study for his/her vocab test (5). –How to Pass Comp II recommends that the student should study for his/her vocab test (Copp 5).
Internal Citations Cont’d Normally, use the author’s last name and page number in parentheses –(Stuckey 35) (Baker 465) (Wright 2) Do not offer page numbers when citing complete works, articles in encyclopedias, single-page articles, or sources without page numbers. Check Write for College pg
Internal Citations Cont’d No author? Cite title of article –Eighty percent of fans agree that Eric Mangini should not be hired as the Browns coach (“Fan Poll ’09”). You will need to highlight the parenthetical references on your source cards. This will make it much easier when writing your paper.
Body Paragraphs All body paragraphs will have at least three different sources cited in them. Every fact is cited even if the fact is not a direct quote.

Works Cited Page Sources must be alphabetized Start indent at second line of each source (just like on source card)
