WHY? It is estimated that 70% of the new Gross national product (GNP) worldvide is coming through the IP system. IP is an essential factor in businesslife having many aspects. A way out of the economical crisis.

…WHY? Situation in The EU: More than half of European industries are now considered IPR-intensive In the European Union over 4.7 trillion € are annually generated by IPR- intensive industries ( ) 90% of EU exports – is accounted for by IPR-intensive industries IPR-intensive industries directly contribute 25.9% of employment in the EU IPR-intensive industries pay significantly more than other industries, with a wage premium of over 40% (EU statistics by OHIM and EPO 2013)

IPR contribution to job creation Job creation can be considered another positive IPR contribution to the European Union.

STARTING POINT Where are we? What shall we do? What is the time?

MAKING A GOOD IP STRATEGY.. Decision by The Polish Government Chose The Right People to do it – Not a too big or small group Be honest and realistic while doing the strategy

…MAKING A GOOD IP STRATEGY Co-operation between Universities, RD- Industry and Business sector etc Using experiences and best practicies from different organisations Comparision with other national strategies Concentrate to the essential points Two excamples: -OHIM´s strategy > -Finlands IP Strategy >

POLAND Poland already has good international co-operation in many fields: – EU, OHIM, EPO – Bilateral treaties – Regional co-operation / VISEGRAD – MOU between Poland, Finland and Baltic States etc.

Finlands IPR Strategy (2009) Four central trends in the field of IPR: Globalisation Digitalisation and convergence Politicisation of intellectual property rights Expansion in scope.

…Finland´s IPR Strategy (2009) The operating environment for IPR should be particulary improved in the following areas: Competence Efficiency of rights Competition law and the functionality of the markets Efficiency of administration.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL POINTS We need worldwidely fast new ideas and inventions to protect our globe. With new technology and inventions we can protect endangered life and clean the polluted nature. Humans have always used nature and natural resources to their benefit and they always will do that. However we have to protect our planets future and prevent ecological catastrophes. IP is helping to create new jobs and wellfare.

CONTINUITY You need a permanent committee to follow, develop and change the strategy when needed. One of the biggest danger of strategies is that they are burried to the archives and nobody reads of follows them anymore.

Implementing The Strategy Information and campaigns – Inform policy makers – Inform companies – Inform media and people – Help and financing, especially SME´s – Business Angels – Concrete projects: Innovation Parliament and Innovative Finland Campaign as excample

Can we control the future? No, we cannot. But, today we have to create possibilities to control it in the future. This is one reason why we need good strategies.

So, Go On Because IP means creativity and inventivness for the better future of humanity.

Thank You for Your attention. Especially for those who still are awake!
