Keystones to Opportunity Grant Initiative Solanco School Board August 19, 2013

 Solanco has been awarded $825,000 over the past 2 years  The grant is design to improve literacy Birth-Grade 12 in the Solanco Community  Formation of a Literacy Committee with three responsibilities: 1.Develop a Comprehensive Literacy Plan 2.Review student performance data 3.Implement the plan/evaluate success Keystone Grant Overview

Plan Goals, 1  Create and maintain a literacy committee representing Birth-Grade 12 children  Investigate the depth and quality of literacy support at home  Provide parents of children in their program with enhanced opportunities to learn about ways to improve literacy for their children  Develop a recurrent communication system to engage the broader Solanco Community in literacy improvement  Implement and employ measures of student literacy at all levels  Evaluate quality of literacy environments at all levels

Plan Goals, 2  Assess literacy skills of transferring students shortly after enrollment  Engage educators and administrators in substantive professional development in literacy-building  Provide professional development for teachers on ways to engage parents more effectively in their children's education  Create functional and practical resources for educators to apply exemplary literacy strategies in the classroom setting  Create functional and practical resources for parents to apply exemplary literacy strategies in the home setting
