Algebraic Expressions Notes 7th Grade

Algebraic Expression ordinary numbers variables (like x or y) An Algebraic Expression is a mathematical phrase that can contain: ordinary numbers variables (like x or y) operators (addition, subtraction multiplication and division)

Variables, operators and expressions A variable is a letter that stands for a missing number. An operator is add, subtract, multiply or divide. An expression puts variables together with operators.

a + 1 a - b 3 x x - a / b Examples: A number plus one The difference between “a” and “b” The product of three and a number A number “a” divided by a number “b” less than a number “x”
