GENERAL CHEMISTRY Safety

Chemical Splash Goggles What: Goggles that cover your eye and the surrounding area. Why: Keep chemicals from splashing into your eye. Where: In the white cabinet on the wall.

Contact Lenses Dangerous to where during a lab using chemicals Why? Even if you are wearing safety goggles, fumes can accumulate under the lens and cause serious injuries or blindness. Wear a pear of glasses on the days that we do labs using chemicals.

Proper Clothing Closed toe shoes, long pants, and gloves must be worn Why? To prevent you from getting chemicals on your skin Also, long hair must be tied back when using open flames

Safety Rules Wear safety goggles (chemicals) Tie hair back (open flames) Do not eat, drink, or chew gum – could poison yourself Wear proper footwear Take labs and safety seriously Notify teacher immediately for all accidents Do not inhale fumes Know the locations of safety equipment

Safety Rules Notify teacher of any spills on clothing Chemicals must be disposed of in a separate jar- do not dump down drain or back into the original container Always add acid to water, not the other way around Keep open test tubes that are being heated pointed upward – not at yourself or others

Safety Equipment First Aid Kit - Fire extinguisher  When: Fire !!!!!  Location: On the wall Fire blanket  When: Fire !!!!  Location: Gas shut-off valve  When: Fire!!!!!  Location: Button on the wall. Cuts off gas to all burners.
