Bell Work Grab a new Bell Work! Instructions: – Write your name and class period on your bell work. – Your due date will be SEPTEMBER 4! – While you are completing today’s bell work, please pull out any absent work you might have for me. I will collect.

Write a sentence for the word irascible.

Journal Write: Events Write about the events in your life that you feel have made you the person you are today. You can write about just one, or more than one if you choose. – Ten minutes – Quiet so your classmates can write. – Do not worry about spelling, grammar, or punctuation. Just write!

Six Word Memoirs Your mission today is to write a six- word memoir. You are composing the story of your life in six words. “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” - Ernest Hemingway “Well, I thought it was funny.” – Stephen Colbert “Traded my car for a banjo” - unknown

More examples “So many discards before sending this” “Fear opens the door for opportunity.” “There's always something to laugh about.” “Looked both ways. Hit by bus.” “She died. I couldn’t say goodbye.” “I achieved humble - kicking and screaming.” “If I don’t score, I failed.” “Basketball, more than just a sport.”

Why do we do this? It is an exercise in writing. It forces you to choose words economically and with care. Your memoir is about you. It can be about your life in total, a dream or goal you might have, or an event that you feel has shaped your life. You choose!

Wrapping it up! Complete the pre-write today. You will turn it in with your memoir. Tomorrow, you will create your memoir on construction paper. Your will be displayed on class, so do not write your name on your memoir. You will write on the back of the memoir. Homework: draft your memoir on the back of the prewrite. Only 6 words!
