Let’s Compare Side by Side! Traditional Letter Grades Students earn one grade for each subject. Letter grades do not tell parents which skills their child has mastered or whether he or she is working at grade level. Traditionally, scores are averaged for the whole grading period. Standards Based Grades Each subject is explained further by a list of skills. Measures how well an individual student is doing in relation to the grade level standards and informs us what students have actually learned and know. Ratings based on consistency of performance over time.

K-1 Performance Grade Key 4 = Exceeds Standard: The student independently and consistently exceeds grade level concepts and skills with high quality work reflecting higher thinking skills. 3 = Meets Standard: The student demonstrates proficiency of grade level concepts and skills, with accuracy, quality, and independence. 2 = Progressing Toward Standard: The student demonstrates progress toward grade level concepts and skills, given support and assistance. 1 = Beginning Demonstration of Standard: The student demonstrates a beginning understanding of grade level concepts and skills, given support and assistance. Achievement of the Standards Students are expected to demonstrate proficient achievement of state standards by the end of the year. Proficiency must be demonstrated consistently over time.

Report Card Standards: Language Arts Report Cards Standards are written using the ELA CCSS Strands. ELA Report Card Standards were developed by condensing CCSS standards within each strand. Report Card Standards indicate what the student should know and be able to do.

Report Card Standards: Mathematics Report Cards Standards are written using the Mathematics CCSS Clusters from each Domain. Report Card Standards indicate what the student should know and be able to do measured by the standards within those clusters.

Report Card Standards: Other Subjects Science & Social Studies Report Card Standards were developed by condensing the NGSS standards within each category. Art, Music, Physical Education were developed to address NGSS standards and a continuum of growth within each content area.
