2 Why a New Reporting System? To provide more specific information to students, parents and teachers To plan individual learning lessons which address grade- level expectations not yet mastered

4 What are Grade-Level Expectations? Skills that a child will be able to demonstrate by the end of the school year

5 Where did the grade-level expectations originate? From the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) www.georgiastandards.org

6 How will the GPS be used? Teachers will have a standards checklist based on grade level expectations Teachers will utilize these expectations to guide instruction These grade-level expectations will be included on the newly designed report cards

8 Key for Grading Grade Status Scale Performance Level Descriptors : Grades reflect assessments per term (not averages) (E) Exceeds The student has demonstrated consistently the required knowledge and skills of the standards. Achievement exceeds the Georgia Performance Standards. (M) Meets The student has demonstrated most of the required knowledge and skills. Achievement meets the Georgia Performance Standards.

9 Key for Grading (N) Not Meeting Standards The student has not demonstrated the required knowledge and skills of the Georgia Performance standards. Extensive remediation is required. The student has not mastered ALL components of the given standard. The student will have other opportunities to learn the material during the school year. Some students may require extensive remediation to get to mastery. (*) Not Assessed On the report card, standards indicated with an asterisk will be standards not yet assessed during this term. However, a grade will be given by the end of the year.

10 Grading Student Work Graded papers will look different when they come home. The teacher will score the assignment with the number of problems correct on the top and total number of total items on the bottom with teacher comments. Example: 8 (number correct) 10 (total number of items)

11 A parent’s essential question will change… From: “What grade did you get?” To: “What have you learned and how does this relate to grade- level expectations?”
