 Average rainfall: 29.5 inches  Average Temperatures in Summer: 82.4° F  Average Temperatures in Winter: 42.8°F

 Deciduous forests can be found in the eastern half of North America, and the middle of Europe. There are many deciduous forests in Asia. Some of the major areas that they are in are southwest Russia, Japan, and eastern China. South America has two big areas of deciduous forests in southern Chile and Middle East coast of Paraguay. There are deciduous forests located in New Zealand, and southeastern Australia

 The temperate deciduous has 4 changing seasons The longer days and warmer weather of spring signal to the trees to grow new leaves and begin photosynthesis again. To prepare for winter, deciduous trees and plants become dormant. They lose their leaves and seal the places where leaves were attached with a protective covering called a leaf scar. Actually, these colors were present in the leaves all year long, but had been hidden by the green pigment of the leaves causing them to change into the beautiful red, yellow and orange leaf colors of FALL

 In summer, THEIR BROAD GREEN LEAVES HELP CAPTURE SUNLIGHT NEEDED TO MAKE FOOD THROUGH PHOTOSYNTHESIS.  As temperatures drop, the tree cuts off the supply of water to the leaves and seals off the area between the leaf stem and the tree trunk. With LIMITED SUNLIGHT AND WATER, THE LEAVES ARE UNABLE TO CONTINUE PRODUCING CHLOROPHYLL (GREEN PIGMENT IN LEAVES) CAUSING THEM TO CHANGE INTO THE BEAUTIFUL RED, YELLOW AND ORANGE LEAF COLORS OF fall.  In winter, it is too cold for the trees to protect their leaves from freezing, so they simply loose them and seal up the places where the leaves attach to the branch. Losing THEIR LEAVES HELPS TREES TO CONSERVE WATER LOSS THROUGH TRANSPIRATION. (Dried LEAVES CONTINUE TO HANG ON THE BRANCHES OF SOME DECIDUOUS TREES UNTIL THE NEW LEAVES COME OUT.) Before THE LEAVES DIE, SOME OF THE FOOD MATERIAL THEY CONTAIN IS DRAWN BACK INTO THE TWIGS AND BRANCHES WHERE IT IS STORED AND USED THE FOLLOWING SPRING.  The warmer temperatures of spring signal to the trees that they can grow new leaves again, and restart the cycle  A GREAT VARIETY OF BIRDS MIGRATE TO WARMER PLACES WHERE THEY CAN FIND FOOD MORE EASILY THESE BIRDS ALSO HAVE ADAPTED TO THESE FLIGHT CONDITIONS BY FLYING IN WAYS ONLY THE LEADER BIRD FATIGUES IN A V shape.  Some MAMMALS (Bears) hibernate during the cold winter months.  Squirrels, chipmunks store food (such as nuts and seeds) in the ground, under fallen leaves, or in tree hollows for use during the cold winters when food is scarce. These SMALL MAMMALS HAVE FUR TO HELP GET THROUGH THE COLD MONTHS WHILE HIBERNATING
