Ascension Thursday St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

We celebrate this festive day with prayer and joyful song, Our Father’s house is home to us; we know that we belong. The bread is broken, wine is poured, a feast to lift us up! Then thank the Lord who gives himself, as food and saving cup! The door is open, enter in, and take your place by right. For you’ve been chosen as his guest, to share his love and light. The bread is broken, wine is poured, a feast to lift us up! Then thank the Lord who gives himself, as food and saving cup!

We come together as the twelve, came to the Upper Room. Our host is Jesus Christ the Lord, now risen from the tomb. The bread is broken, wine is poured, a feast to lift us up! Then thank the Lord who gives himself, as food and saving cup! Who travels needs both food and drink, to help him on his way. Refreshed and strong, we’ll journey on, and face another day. The bread is broken, wine is poured, a feast to lift us up! Then thank the Lord who gives himself, as food and saving cup!

The first Reading is taken from the Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 1, verses 8-11 This is the word of the Lord Thanks be to God

In our Gospel reading from St Luke Chapter 24, verses We hear how Jesus blessed his disciples and was carried to heaven. This is the gospel of the Lord Praise to you, Lord, Jesus Christ.

We pray for all who work to spread the Gospel across the world. Christ be beside us We pray for peace across the world. Christ be beside us We pray for harmony, so that all people can live together. Christ be beside us We pray for refugees and those who find themselves without a home tonight. Christ be beside us We pray for all those who are unfairly imprisoned across the world for teaching God’s message. Christ be beside us We pray for everyone here at St Anne’s that our school community is a place where your gospel is lived and shared every day. Christ be beside us

This is our school, let peace dwell here, let the rooms be full of contentment, let love abide here. Love of one another, love of mankind, love of life itself And love of God. Let us remember, that just as many hands build a house, so many hearts make our school. Amen

Let us spend a few moments in silent prayer. We place all our prayers in God’s hands as we say: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

May the Lord bless us. May his promise to always be with us, warm our hearts everyday. Just like the disciples, may we take his message to everyone that we meet. AMEN

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, Who abide in his shadow for life, Say to the Lord: ‘My refuge, My rock in whom I trust’ And he will raise you up, on eagles wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.

The snare of the fowler will never capture you, And famine will bring you no fear. Under his wings your refuge, His faithfulness, your shield. And he will raise you up, on eagles wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.

You need not fear the terror of the night Nor the arrow that flies by day; Though thousands fall about you, Near you it shall not come. And he will raise you up, on eagles wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of his hand.
