Faculty Ensuring competency and integrity

Faculty The university employs competent faculty qualified to accomplish the mission and goals of the institution. Standards should be adopted by the faculty and administration

Faculty Primary consideration should be given to the highest earned degree in a discipline –Ph.D. –Ed.D –MFA –Others Consideration should also be given to –Competence –Effectiveness –Related work experiences –Professional licensure and certifications –Honors and awards –Competencies that lead to excellence in teaching and student learning outcomes

Credential Guidelines (SACS) Depends of the level of teaching responsibility Associate degree without transferability –Baccalaureate degree in teaching area General education and transferable Associate degree level (cycle one) –Doctor’s or Master’s degree with concentration in teaching discipline

Credential Guidelines (SACS) Baccalaureate courses (cycle one) –Doctor’s or Master’s degree with a concentration in teaching area –Minimum of 25% of the courses taught by faculty with terminal degree

Credential Guidelines (SACS) Graduate courses (cycle two) –Earned doctorate or terminal degree in teaching discipline or related area

Credential Guidelines (SACS) Graduate Assistants –Master’s in teaching discipline –Direct supervision by faculty member experienced in the teaching discipline, regular in-service training, and planned and periodic evaluation

Faculty University regularly evaluates the effectiveness of each faculty member –Criteria must be published –Evaluation should occur regardless of contractual agreement or tenure status University provides professional development for faculty as teachers, scholars, and practitioners. –Travel for professional association meetings –Teaching quality centers –Research support

Faculty University publishes policies on the responsibility and authority of faculty in academic and governance matters –Policies should be formally adopted by the administration and Board –Faculty handbook should contain these policies and should generally guide committee structures

Faculty Have established clear standards and procedures for faculty selection that appropriately reflect the teaching/research levels? Do we have a clear and understood process of faculty evaluation? –Tenure –Appropriate measurements of quality based on teaching/research levels? Are our standards regularly reviewed based on new realities?
