 Systematic investigation to establish facts or principles or to collect information on a subject

 Report which combines facts and original insights to present information on a topic  Each original conclusion in a research report should be supported by facts and other evidence.

 Materials that might be used as a source of information  To get an overview of their topic researchers might want to check resources such as encyclopedias or other reference work.

 Subject of research  Because there was too much information on his research topic, he decided to narrow his focus.

General Goal: I want to understand Divergent better OR I want to relate what I learned in Divergent to a real world topic. Question: Which faction would ______________have been in? What are 3 actions or beliefs held by that person to help me determine his/her faction? Set Research Goals First, write down the goals for your research.

 Two types of documentation:  In text citations  End text citations Documentation

 In text citations go right in your report next to the information you got from the source. Documentation We will not use in-text for this project. We will learn this when we write a documented essay.

 End text citations go right at the end of the report. You may know these as the Bibliography or Works Cited page. Documentation You WILL have to create a Works Cited slide for your power point presentation. You MUST include a Works Cited slide for your project.

 Index cards that contain the relevant information about a source that would enable others to easily find the source themselves  Using his source card, he was able to locate the address of the web site and reprint the lost pages.
