Cognitive Studies Lab Porto Alegre - Brazil 10 laptops December 27 th Jan - researches exploration, pilot planning (choose Luciana de Abreu School – no computers – 5 blocks from the Lab) Feb - David Cavallo, Walter Bender, State`s Chief of Education Department, School`s Principal, 12 Teachers ( on vacation) Feb – school teachers even being in summer vacation ask to work with the lab researches to get prepared to use laptops and plan pilot – 2 classes 4th grade 2 classes 6 grade. Plan about Scholl megaChange – construccionism – learning projects National Curriculum Parameters. First day of school – State governor goes to Luciana de Abreu School – visit one class with 10 lap tops. Freedom to change

Learning Projects We want the kids to choose subjects (questions/problems to solve) from their own motivation Enrich the class room environment – first project – all class thinking together : little carpet, pillows, signs with rules settled by kids with the teacher, tables arrangements, magazines, books, plants… Kids evaluation – summarize research Receive computers – explore them – start projects Teachers have no time for workshops – in service training – monitors - researches inside classroom – learning projects Film – school 03_escola_17_04
