Colored Pencils

What is a colored pencil?   a pencil containing a wax & pigment as its "lead".   They are semi-opaque accept for white, cream and grey.   A good quality brand we will be using is Prismacolor Pencils.

Blending…  the process of combining layers of color together by over lapping lightly  Use light colors over darks to blend within the same color family  Example: Use yellow to blend warm colors in the apples. See how the red is blended into yellow so the apples look realistic!

Burnishing  using a white or light colored pencil with heavy pressure over several light layers of built up color.  It makes the colors look brighter, sometimes lighter and can give an image a polished or reflective look. With Burnishing

 The pencil wax fills in the paper tooth and gives the surface a slick, polished appearance.  Apply over layered colored area to be burnisheheavy pressure d. Burnished: fills up the entire tooth of the paper Not Burnished: gaps and white space left on the paper

Intensity  the saturation, strength or purity of a color that is controlled by pencil pressure.  Vivid, bright color = high intensity  Dull, faded color = low intensity More Intensity Less Intensity

Adding Value and Shading  When trying to create realistic shading with colored pencil, use a complimentary color instead of black. Red – Green Red – Green Yellow – Violet Yellow – Violet Blue - Orange Blue - Orange Here is a red sphere that is modeled by using green Yellow fruit is modeled by using violet
