What is Edmodo? Social learning network & Learning management system Student Uses Collaborate with classmates & teachers. Post projects Turn in assignments Take quizzes & tests Teacher Uses Collaborate with colleagues & students Post media Post, collect, & grade assignments Create, post, & grade assessments

Setting Up Your Profile Click on “Account” and “Settings” to access your profile. On the profile page you can change: Profile Picture Privacy Settings Notifications Password Account Info

Creating A Group Click on ”Create” in the Groups Area on the left of your Home Page. Give the group a name, select the grade level or use the slider to select multiple grade levels, and choose a subject. Click Create and you will be given the group code for others to use to join the group.

Joining Groups Click on “Join” in the Groups Area on the left of your Home Page. Insert the group code.

Student Sign-UP Students will click on “I’m a Student.” Students will add: the group code their username a password their first and last name click “Sign up” to join. Students do not need an email address to register.

Student Profile Students can create their own profiles for Edmodo: Badges Learning Styles Profile Picture Groups/Classes

Student Sign-Up Information Students cannot create an Edmodo account without a group code. They will be automatically put into your group when they sign up. Students can be a part of multiple groups/classes by joining using the individual group codes. Two ways to register students: Students register themselves make sure to change group code once they are done. Teacher registers all of the students using first/last name

Badges Are rewarded to students and even teachers for completing a task or reaching a milestone. Teachers award their students badges. Click on “Award Badge” Choose to create your own or use stock badges. To create your own: Fill-in fields and upload a picture. Teacher badges are awarded by Edmodo.

Co-Teaching & Collaboration Co-Teaching Settings Click on “Manage” on the right side of your screen. Select the appropriate account. Change their access to “Co-Teacher”.

Groups & Subgroups Creating a sub-group Click on “Manage” on the right side of your screen. Click on “Create Small Group” & name your group when prompted. Use the interface to add students to the sub-group. Groups are ways to organize your students by subject, section, or topic. Teachers and students can join multiple groups Teachers can create “small groups” or sub­groups within a group. Helpful way to differentiate instruction.

Parent Access Edmodo allows parent access through the parent portal. Assignments Due Late Assignments New grades Upcoming Events Assignment Comments Announcements and messages from teachers See a list of their child’s teachers. Parent codes are student specific and can be accessed on the management screen.

Posting on Edmodo Choose who you want to sent your post to. Choose what type of post you want. Type information here Attach a file from your computer, Internet link, or link to an item in your library. Choose who you want to sent your post to.

Posting Parental Contact Communicate With Your Students

Managing Posts Note: Students can only manage their own posts. Teachers are able to manage ALL of the posts on Edmodo. Delete - This will delete the initial post and all replies to that post. Edit – Allows changes to be made to an existing post. Link to the post – Provides a URL link for this post. Public – Makes the post public on the public page. NOTE: In order for post links to be viewable by outsiders, they MUST be made public. Note: Students can only manage their own posts.

Student Posting EVERYTHING posted is visible to the teacher. Students are unable to direct message each other. 

Replying to Posts Students and teacher can reply to a post by clicking “Reply” Can be used as a way for students to “talk” to their teachers. Can be used as a discussion thread regarding a topic studied in class. Make sure you have rules for your discussion thread. Required length Number of posts Grammar & structure

Alerts & Notes Alerts are for important messages to your students Limit: 140 characters. Notes are the most common type of post. Messages to groups Links to information and materials. Attachments for assignments, etc. Files Attach files and link to notes using the “Attach” buttons. Links

Create & Post Assignments Assignment portal allows students to view & turn-in assignments in one location. Students can also post assignments for the whole class to see and comment on.

Turning In Assignments Click on “Turn In” to get to assignment portal. Upload file or link. Leave a comment if needed. Click “submit” Once assignment has been turned in it appears in the teacher’s notification area.

Creating Assessments Click on “Quiz” in the post area. Choose to upload a previous quiz or create a new one. Use Quiz Creator to: Create questions Set answers Set time limit Set point value

Assessment Data Grading Assessments: Multiple choice questions grade automatically Short answer & Fill-in-the-blank graded by teacher. Data Driven: Data spreadsheet lets teacher track students’ progress.

Polls Creating Class Polls Learning Styles Literary Opinions Click on “Quiz” in the post area. Type in poll question and choices. Learning Styles Literary Opinions Content Opinions Multimedia Programming Etc.

Notifications Quick links to important information: Connections = Fellow Teachers *Edmodo recommends connections. Turned-In Assignments Upcoming Events – From Calendar Alerts – Posted to group page Group Members = Students *Need group code.

Grading Student Work Click on “Grades” on toolbar. Select student to view their work. Type in score & total possible score. Click on “Grade”.

Gradebook Gradebook Features & Functions: Enter & Edit grades See grades for all assignments Total percentage for students & class Note: Assignments DO NOT close. Enter a “0” in the grade field to close the assignment.

Annotating Students can view their annotations. Grade comments Teachers can mark-up student papers Highlight text Notes Click on “Annotate” and the document will open in a window with marking tools. Students can view their annotations. Grade comments Correct & Resubmit

Library Allows the teacher to store materials on Edmodo. Files/Documents Audio & Video Resources Pictures & Graphics Internet links
