The Austin Garden

Project By: Cayla Walsh Joe Smrt Kyle Petty

Sustainability: At The Austin Garden we strive for efficient use of resources that come into our facility and aim for long term maintenance of the environment. We want to responsibly manage all resources socially, economically, and environmentally to ensure customers are satisfied with our products and services.

What is LEED? Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED is an international green rating certification The higher the rating, the more efficient the building is

Five Rating Systems: Building Design and Construction LEED for New Construction LEED for Core and Shell LEED for Schools LEED for Healthcare LEED for Retail Green Interior Design and Construction Green Building Operations and Maintenance Homes Neighborhood Development

Four Levels of LEED: There are 100 base points, 6 possible Innovation in Design and 4 Regional Priority points Certified 40–49 points Silver 50–59 points Gold 60–79 points Platinum 80 points and above

LEED Construction/Operating:

Construction Requirements: Heat reflective paint Increase insulation Use fiberglass windows “Self cleaning” glass Install weather-stripping Install ICF’s Radiant floor heating Geothermal heating and Recycled material

Operation Requirements: Motion sensor lighting Outdoor timers Regulate heat and air conditioner Programmable thermostat Shuttle service Recycling Bathroom pluming High efficiency toilets Energy-Star appliances

Noteworthy Feature #1: Solar Forest Provides shade Electric vehicles Electricity at night

Noteworthy Features #2: Cool roof Facility benefits Reduce bills Extend roof life Environmental benefits Lower electricity demand Reduce power plant emissions

Noteworthy Feature #3: Irrigation system Recycles rain water and gray water Cuts down on costs
