AMITY UNIVERSITY RAJASTHAN GREEN BUILDING SUBHRANGSU DEY AND PRIYANKA SHARMA M.Sc Applied Science 5/16/2018

2 Outline What is Green Building? Why is Green Building Important?
Our Planning Construction Building Design Materials Support for Green Building? Benefits Experienced in Green Buildings Green Buildings Resulting in Significant Benefits What Green Buildings did differently Cost of Green Buildings - Indian Experiences Technopolis, Kolkata(Image) Performance monitoring Conclusion

3 What is Green Building? EPA definition: “Green or sustainable building is the practice of creating healthier and more resource-efficient models of construction, renovation, operation, maintenance, and demolition.” More than just installing solar panels on your roof

4 Why is Green Building Important?
8000lbs of waste are typically thrown into a landfill during the construction of a 2000sqft home The buildings in the INDIA consume more than twice as much energy as all the cars in the INDIA Buildings account for 96 KWh in rural and 288 KWh in Urban of total electricity consumption in the India(Energy Buildings use 80% of total drinking water consumption in the India Indoor levels of pollution are commonly 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor pollution levels

5 Our Planning Construction – Reduce the amount of waste generated at a construction site Design – Building design details will help to reduce construction materials, and energy/water requirements when completed Material Selection – Careful selection of construction materials will leave less of an environmental impact

6 Construction Construction generate 30% of Solid Waste After Build
Goal: Reduce / Reuse / Recycle Building design based on standard sizes of materials Buy higher quality to reduce rejects Recycle Renovate an existing building

7 Building Design Goal: To design the building so that it requires less energy/water and is healthier for inhabitants when it is complete and in use Air ducts for an efficient and healthy air flow Insulation Windows designed for maximum daylight Passive Solar Control Solar Cells Heat Exchanger for climate control system Location Rain water conservation

8 Materials Goal: Choose materials that have low environmental costs and do not contribute to indoor air pollution Engineered Lumber (recycled and reclaimed material) Doors and Windows (energy and placement) Floor Coverings (recycled with no off- gassing) Roof Materials (Reflective and light) Energy Efficient Appliances

9 Support for Green Building
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System Voluntary Government Response Create funds and incentives to encourage green building Help on countries economy. Follow Internet for more Details to make green building.

10 Benefits Experienced in Green Buildings
First 3 Platinum buildings monitored to validate tangible benefits Benefits far exceeding the initial estimates Building Sq.ft Normal (kWh) Actual % Reduction Annual Energy Savings (Rs in Lakhs) Wipro 1,75,000 48,00,000 31,00,000 40% 102 ITC 1,70,000 35,00,000 20,00,000 45% 90 CII Godrej GBC 20,000 3,50,000 1,30,000 63% 9 Energy consumption depends on Local climate, Density of occupancy, Occupancy schedule, Orientation of the building, Internal loads

11 Green Buildings Resulting in Significant Benefits
Eco-Commercial Building, Greater Noida- LEED Platinum 1.275 Billion sq.ft so far Environmental Benefit Category Annual Benefits Per Million Sq.ft* CO2 reduction 12,000 Tons Energy savings 15,000 MWh Significant benefits Can light 1000 villages *Source : IGBC ITC Green Centre LEED Platinum 11

12 What Green Buildings did differently
Feature Conventional Building Green Building Electrical Demand (1 Mn sq. ft) MW 6 - 7 MW Lighting Power Density (watts/ sq. ft) Equipment Power Density (watts/ sq. ft) Local Shopping Complex- Reliance LEED Gold Rated Aquamall, Dehradun LEED Gold 12

13 Cost of Green Buildings - Indian Experiences
Year awarded Built-in Area (sq.ft) Rating Achieved % increase in cost Payback (Yrs) CII-Godrej GBC, Hyderabad 2003 20,000 Platinum 18 % 7 years ITC Green Centre, Gurgaon 2004 1,70,000 15 % 6 years Wipro, Gurgaon 2005 1,75,000 8 % 5 years Technopolis, Kolkata 2006 72,000 Gold 6% 3 years Spectral Services Consultants Office, Noida 2007 15,000 8% 4 years Kalpataru Square 2008 3,00,000 2% 2 years Suzlon One Earth, Pune 2010 8,00,000

14 Technopolis ,Saltlake,Kolkata

15 Performance monitoring
Type of Building Average Energy Savings over Conventional Buildings (%) Average Water Savings over Conventional Buildings (%) Corporate Offices 47% 60% Tech Parks 27% 50% Hotels 35% 45% Hospitals 33% Educational Institutions 39% 40% Asian School of Business, Pallippuram IGBC Gold rated Data collected from 40 IGBC Rated Green Buildings so far

16 Conclusion I find that building Green maybe also a matter of environmental concern , healthy and reduce the energy consumption which may help our india better Economic condition. So I request My Amity University also try to make Green building for reduce energy consumptions and Expense Projected image of Amity University Rajasthan
