Everything You Wanted to Know About College

Applying In Texas – is a generic application that is accepted at pretty much every school in the statewww.applytexas.org Applications and essay choices FAFSA Outside Texas –You will need to visit the individual pages and follow the appropriate instructions.

Requirements This is going to change based on the school. This can be found on the school’s web page. Once you decide on schools: –Get a log in (most offer them for future students) –Make a commitment to check it often for announcements and updates.

Classes Chosen based on your major. You are given a list – you should make a four year plan that you can reference. Meet your advisor – they help you stay on track and get the classes you need. Check for classes that are only offered certain times of year. (fall only) Size – This often depends if it is an upper or lower level class. Often classes in your major are smaller than generic classes.

Paying You don’t receive a bill until after you register for classes. Your bill will include all fees. Some also include dorm and food costs. This depends on the school. If you have financial aid, this is applied to the bill. If you owe anything at that point, they will send you the smaller bill. If you have money left, it is given to you. Most schools also offer payment plans to make it easier to pay tuition. (Usually three payments.)

Dorms & Food Dorms vary in style and cost. You will want to consult the school’s web page to get more information on this. Some dorms are in high demand and require a deposit to hold your spot. Food plans vary from student to student and school to school. You should pick the plan that best fits your needs.

FAFSA vs. Scholarships FAFSA is federal student aid. It comes as a loan or possibly a grant you might not have to give back. This is based on financial need. Your parents will fill out information and submit it. The earlier the better. For the most money, you need to have this submitted by March 31 st. Scholarships are monies given to you that do not need to be repaid. If paid out over time, you may requirements you must meet in order to continue receiving the money. Such as GPA.
