AECF’s RBA History: How it All Started o Culture of using data to inform decision- making o Flagship KIDS COUNT index and data book since 1990 o RBA introduced over a decade ago to allow AECF to: Identify population results Align data and work with population results Tell a more cohesive story about the Foundation’s work 7

AECF’s RBA History: Why RBA Was Chosen o Consistency with AECF culture o RBA framework has population and performance accountability o Supports data-driven, transparent decision making o Identifies appropriate levels of performance accountability Aligns the work of each unit to the Foundation's stated results o Incorporates the use of qualitative data to help communicate how we are able to Turn the Curve o Is a common sense, easy-to-use framework and approach 8

AECF’s RBA History: How We Incorporated the RBA Framework o Results-Based Leadership (RBL) training for all staff (July 2013 – October 2014) Six days of training for units, Senior Leadership and select consultants Unit training co-designed with individual units o Products and tools developed that support the work o Post-RBL technical assistance provided to units and teams across the Foundation

AECF’s RBA History: How the Process Is Unfolding o Ongoing technical assistance across the Foundation o Focus on clarifying: Contributions of each unit/team to population results Program-level results Performance measures  High action and high alignment, including ensuring that the unit measures are aligned with Foundation results o Headline measures identified for all units (including program units, capacity building units and infrastructure units)
