PFE 2013 General Rules: The PFE Science-Engineering Fair will follow the general rules for display and judging as used by the District Science- Engineering Fair. Students whose projects place 1 st -3 rd at PFE will advance to the District Science-Engineering Fair on April 20, Deadline for Registration: Registration forms MUST be returned to the student’s teacher by Friday, February 1st. This is a firm deadline, as there is much paperwork to prepare prior to the fair. Intent of Participation: The intent of the fair is to provide an opportunity for students to explore the world around them. We expect that the bulk of the work be done by the students themselves. When help is provided, the student should give the appropriate “credit” on their project board. Judging Criteria: o Project Objectives: creativity, originality and clear statement of objectives. (20 %) o Project Design: creativity, originality and thoroughness of the approach used. (30 %) o Project Execution: thoroughness of experiment and quality of record keeping, level of skill used and amount of work done by the student compared to others. (20%) o Project Conclusions: stated clearly and consistent with the results of experiment. (10%) o Project Presentation: clarity of display and quality of oral explanation. (20%) Judges decisions are FINAL. Judges will attempt to provide feedback to the participants on suggestions to help them with future fairs, experiments, and science projects. Display Guidelines: All projects MUST have a project board and a journal. Project boards WILL NOT be sold at PFE this year. Please use a 32” or 36” tri-fold project board. Please keep in mind that all schools in Humble are participating in the fair. So don’t wait! Buy your board now at office supply stores or other general merchandise stores in the area. Tables will be provided the day of the fair. The total height of the display should not exceed 8 feet (including the height of the table). Project Setup: March 6, 2013 Students and parents will be responsible for setting up their projects from 3:30-5:30pm in the cafeteria. All projects MUST be set up on this day. The top three projects for each grade level will receive a special 1 st, 2 nd, or 3 rd, place ribbon and will advance to the District- Wide Fair on April 20, Set up for this fair will be the day prior, April 19, Project Removal: Students will be called to the cafeteria to pick up their projects and take back to their classrooms on the day of the fair.
