Learning Objectives: At the end of this lesson you should be able to: describe the potential health problems related to the prolonged use of ICT equipment ; describe some simple strategies for preventing these problems ; describe a range of safety issues related to using computers describe some measures for preventing accidents

What Health Risks? 1.Repetitive Strain Injury, 2.Eye Problems, 3.Back Problems

What Health Risks? Repetitive Strain Injury, caused by repetitive finger movements -over long periods of time causes pain in the finger joints and wrists

How do I prevent RSI? have the keyboard positioned correctly, use a keyboard with a good ergonomic design, use wrist supports in front of the keyboard & mouse, take regular breaks from using the keyboard.

What Health Risks? Eye problems common when using monitors over extended periods of time. can result in irritated eyes, blurred vision & headaches room lighting can have a major effect on eye strain -reflections in the screen from lights & windows

How do I reduce eye strain?. use an anti-glare filter in front of the screen windows should have blinds lighting should be diffuse

How do I reduce eye strain?.

What Health Risks? Back problems, sitting at a computer for a long time can be uncomfortable. leaning back in the chair reduces the pressure on the spine but then the arms have to reach forward to the keyboard creating muscle tension which leads to aches and pains in the neck, shoulders, back and arms.

How do I avoid back problems?

What Safety Risks? 1.Electrical, 2.Fire risks, 3.Food and Drink

What Safety Risks?
