Stingrays, It is hard to believe that a year has passed and the swim season is about to begin. I am anxious to begin my 3 rd season with all returning swimmers and I look forward to meeting our new team members. This welcome letter is to help inform family members of this season’s events and activities that will occur during the upcoming 8 weeks. I would like to welcome our coaches: Jennifer Dunn, Assistant Coach (Age Group)  Jennifer is not new to swimming! She swam for the Northern Virginia Swim League, is a personal trainer and a competing triathlete. Swim Practice  Arrive 5-10 minutes early.  During practice, parents should remain off deck (away from edge of lap lane area of pool).  Swimmers must participate in at least 2 practices in order to swim in the subsequent swim meet.  Swimmers may swim during another swim practice time (once permitted by Swim Coach) if family schedule conflicts with regularly scheduled practice time.  In case of inclement weather and practice is canceled, swimmers may practice during another practice swim time (age appropriate).  Register swimmers availability through web-site for swim meets; by Sunday for Wednesday meets and by Tuesdays for Saturday meets. This ensures that your swimmer(s) will be present for swim meets.  Teams can only bring 130 swimmers to a meet. This means there can only be a maximum of 130 swimmers per team for any meet. This is to accommodate the pools that have limited deck space and/or parking space. Franklin Park Pool is a Loudoun Parks & Recreation Pool and opens at 11am on Saturday mornings.  The Franklin Park Stingrays will swim the following number of swimmers for each stroke due to this limitation: ◦ Freestyle – 12 swimmers (per gender and age-group) ◦ Backstroke – 12 swimmers (per gender and age-group) ◦ Breaststroke – 9 swimmers (per gender and age-group) ◦ Butterfly – 6 swimmers (per gender and age-group) ◦ IM (individual medley) – 3 swimmers (per gender and age-group) ◦ Relays- 1 heat of each age-group  During swim meets, swimmers MUST stay in the team area and with their age group. This helps Rounders locate swimmers for events. In addition, swimmers MUST check in with Rounders prior to Warm-up.  Swimmers MUST stay until the end of the swim meet. Relays will occur at the end of each meet and it is critical that ALL swimmers remain at the meet. (NOTE: As with other sports, all participants remain at the event until it is finished [e.g., soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse, etc.]. Swimming is at TEAM sport.  Swimmers who do not “show” for swim meets (unless an illness or emergency occurs) WILL NOT swim in the following meet (Saturday or Wednesday).  Swimmers who do not swim in Saturday meets will swim on Wednesday nights. If there is lane availability, swimmers who swim in a Saturday meet may swim an event that they DID NOT swim on the prior Saturday. Swimmers who wish to “swim up” (older age bracket) must see one of the coaches to determine the lane availability. Franklin Park Stingrays4
