Eureka Stockade “We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties."

Why did the stockade start? The stockade started because the miners wanted to live in a world were they were allowed to mine without a permit and that the British couldn’t tell them what to do and how to do it. The miners would start a group at the end of the day and chant that they are going to fight and win. There were many men that came down to fight and die for their country and try and win the rights of knowing that the police cant control the world we are in today.

How did it start? #2 The stockade started in It started with a group of miners that where tied of the police pushing them around. They soon got the miners from all around Australia. They had a meeting everyday and soon they. Sent out two men, but they never came back. They soon found out that they are in jail and so the men got cross and on that they decided to start fighting. So they got the guns and more people started coming from the gold fields and on the 2 nd of December 1854 the war began.

Did they win the rights of the police? They didn’t win the war but they won the rights. The government decided that the men were right and said that they were wrong to tell the red coats to fight. The government decided that the miners, with and without a license, could mine without a permit and vote.

Why did they lose the fight? The Miners got ambushed in the middle of the night and that is when the war started. Many, many miners died that night and many were injured and bleeding. The miners that they war they fort in actually won and that they should be able enjoy the feeling of being winners.

Why is it so popular today? The big event started on the 11 th of November It was such and significant event that is why it is so popular. The confidents of the men was so enthusiastic that they believed that it is a day to remember. The thought of the men, women and children that died makes us wonder, would we even be as lucky as we are today if the war didn’t go on, and what would of happened to Australia's history?

Life on the goldfields The life on the goldfield at the time of the stockade was difficult. They had to try to survive without food for days. There was many men who died on the goldfield. The health back than was normally death sentences. They where so badly looked after that they go5t diseases easily and they couldn’t afford medical treatment

What happened at the stockade? The Red coats (opposition) thought that if they ambush they could win get all the miners, so they did. As soon as the miners herded the gun shots they got up to fight, but it was to late. They were shot by the hundred's. The stockade had big impact on the lives on everyone that mined for gold. The men everywhere with out a life. The Children on the goldfields where Scared and frightened about what happened to their family members.

The book on the stockade. “The night they stormed eureka” The book was wrote by Jackie French. The book was based on an teenager called Samantha. She is taken back in time to see the stockade. She meets up with two people that are husband and wife, called Mr and Mrs Puddleham who own a little kitchen on the goldfields. The couple take Samantha on a adventure of a life time. Samantha knows the Stockade is coming but cant tell when. She herd about it in class in the time she was burn. In the end she finds that she is back in her own time and she looks at the grave and finds she actually was there at the time of the stockade but she had no idea.

More info Red Coats: the red coats are the men that where standing out for England and they were the men that were fighting against the men on thee goldfields. Why did the Government change his mind about what happened? The Government changed his mind because he knew that the decision he made wasn’t what he liked so he gave the men on the goldfields a chance to mine without a permit and be able to vote.
