Training Needs Assessment 4 ECCE day, curriculum and framework in ICDS

Requirement of ECCE Educator in Private/NGO Channel 5 To actualise the provisions of the draft National ECCE Policy nearly lakh trained and skilled ECCE caregiver/ teacher would be required in the private/ NGO channel. ( Estimate on the basis of ECCE service provisions for nearly 3-4 crore children in the age group of 3-6 years who are not attending AWCs and adult – child ratio of 1:20 and also children in the 0-3 years age group who would need centre based ECCE services ) Current capacity of the system for training through regular face to face mode (NCTE recognised Nursery Teacher Training Institutes) is nearly 1 lakh trainees annually.

Types of training in ICDS (A) BASIC Training Induction training on initial engagement/appointment Job Training Course Orientation Training for Instructors of MLTCs/ AWTCs (B) Refresher Training (C) Vertical Training (D) Skill Development Training (E) Sensitization Workshops and Meetings 6

Need to move beyond classroom training Class room training can only reach so much at a time. Enhancing no. of own training centers in short term is difficult. Hence partnership……. Quality of training suffers if we rush through it. Standardization of messages at cutting edge is an issue in ToT approach. Training aids are negligible. A/V equipment are few in AWTC/MLTCs. 9

Partnership is the answer 10 Enhance training infrastructure Enhancing trainers base Monitoring and quality control of training Content development Skill development training Convergence with training module Coordination with government on planning, implementation and to avoid duplication

Potential Areas of Support ECCE Expanding training infrastructure Strengthening monitoring, accreditation & quality control Strengthen accountability system of ICDS training delivery Preparing Trained human resource base of ICDS trainers Planning, Development, Implementation, Coordination of ICDS Training Initiatives Theme based excellence / model centres of practice & learning Peer Educators 11
