SEXTING THE DANGERS OF SEXTING AND WHAT TEENAGERS NEED TO KNOW!!!!!

What is Sexting?  Sexting is the electronic sharing of sexually explicate photographs, videos, or text messages, primarily through cell phones.  MTV suggests that 30% of all teens have participated in sexting

Why is Sexting so common?  People think of it as a joke, and do not realize how serious it can be.  Girls believe it will make guys like them more  Peer Pressure because kids are pressured and encouraged to be sexual  Revenge because there is always the possibility that compromising photos might be sent out if there is an argument or nasty break up

Consequences of Sexting  Bad Reputation  Betrayal  Once it’s sent you can not take it back  The damage is done once the picture is out there  Sexting is permanent because people can always save them and you have no control over who can see them  It can become part of your permanent identity  Be careful of sexual suggestive pictures on facebook

Sexting and the Law  In some states if you have a photo of an under- aged person you will be charged as a sex offender for possessing child pornography.  Sender and Receiver can be charged as sex offender  Can be charged as a sex offender for forwarding photos to friends  Once a person is legally convicted as a sex offender they must register as a sex offender which will ruin their professional life

How to Resist Sexting  A person can always refuse to take part in sending, receiving, or forwarding pictures  Guys do not pressure girls to take part

What to do if you Regret Sexting  Ask the person to delete it  If they refuse to delete it talk to an adult or someone you trust to help you get throught the situation

What to do if you Receive an Explicit Photo  Erase it right away  Do not send it to anyone  Tell an adult immediately so you can protect yourself later  Tell the sender you do not want to receive sexually explicit messages
