6 Background to the programme design Personalised. Rigorous assessment linked to readiness. Closeness to headship. Leadership experience in different context.

7 The redesigned NPQH

8 Assessment Process – 2 stages On – line application against the 6 key areas of headship and your preparation for Headship through your own professional development. 2 day face2face assessment – 5 tasks and development feedback. If you are successful at this stage you become a ‘trainee head teacher’. If you are successful at this stage.

9 2 day assessment and development event One assessor to 2 applicants 5 assessment tasks inc a written task and ‘real play’. Development opportunity based on readiness. Decision made at end of day 2 – development interview ready/not ready yet

18 Section 1 : NPQH readiness for Headship You must provide three reasons why you think you are ready for Headship in the next 18 months. Evidence that you have sought to prepare yourself for the challenge of headship through the skills and experiences you have built up Evidence that you have some experience of strategic leadership at a whole school or organisation-wide level Evidence that you have sought and received corroboration of your readiness for headship

20 Section 3 : NPQH Continuing Professional Development Overview Provides an opportunity to demonstrate that you have actively sought Professional Development over recent years to address your development needs and to prepare you for headship. 4 examples and for each example comment on : What the professional development was (the nature of the activity) Why you undertook it (i.e. what your development need was) What you learned from the experience and how it changed your leadership practice How it has prepared you for headship
