Giraffes’ long necks help them reach their food in high places that other animals can’t reach. Long legs help giraffes to be good runners and jumpers.

A giraffe has special valves that stop the blood from going to its head when it drinks. This protects the brain from too much blood pressure. Giraffes have to go to a water hole, but not as often as other animals.

A male giraffe uses his ossicones in serious fights.(an ossicone is the “horns on the top of the giraffes head

After a baby giraffe is born it can walk after about an hour. This allows it to escape if a predator tries to attack.

A giraffe’s tongue can grasp things.

In Africa giraffes are often seen with little birds on their backs. The birds eat ticks and other insects to clean the giraffe’s skin. The giraffe gives the birds food. This is called symbiosis.

Fascinating Facts Giraffes are like walking lookout towers. Giraffes can see color.
