Objective 3.01 Understand Business Documents

Essential Questions to think about Why is formatting applied to fonts, paragraphs, and pages? What documents are commonly used in a business setting? What are appropriate formatting guidelines for business documents and why is formatting important? Which business document is the most appropriate means of communication in a business situation? (example interviews)

What is word processing? Using a computer to create, edit, and print documents. The great advantage of word processing over using a typewriter is that you can make changes without retyping the entire document. If you make a typing mistake, you simply back up the cursor and correct your mistake. If you want to delete a paragraph, you simply remove it, without leaving a trace. It is equally easy to insert a word, sentence, or paragraph in the middle of a document.

What types of applications can you create? Resumes Cover letters Research papers Meeting Agendas Tables Flyers

What is meant by formatting? Refers to the appearance, size and any other characteristic of text. Use the “Format” menu to apply most formatting features.
