EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY

TABLE OF CONTENTS

LACK OF ACTIVITY These days, the need for someone to get up and go talk, or even write a letter, to someone is minimal. Therefore, the need for physical activity and interaction is limited. Playing games entertains children instead of them running around outside. Therefore, the aforementioned lack of need for activity is slowly decreasing.

INTELLIGENCE Technology seems to be a double-edged sword. The availability of information allows us to study things and gather data more easily than we would’ve been exposed to otherwise, while the convenience of technology today, makes us reliant on it. A good example of this double-edged sword is a calculator. It allows us to do higher level math without as much work, however, we become reliant on them for the little things, too. Television is another example. It gives us the ability to find information with educational programs, but it is often times used for “trash” or programs that are not educational.

PATIENCE/TOLERANCE Children tolerance seems to be slowly deteriorating. Because of all of the “high-speed” electronics, children and, people in general, are becoming frustrated more and more easily. People, for example, become angry and frustrated when thing take a while to load. Studies show that patience is needed for determination, which is a necessary skill in life. No one can survive the hardships of life without determination and patience.
