  Myth is a story that is created to explain the mysteries of the universe.  Often explains how something connected with humans or nature came to be.  Usually features gods, goddesses, and other beings with supernatural powers as well as human flaws Myth

  A legend is a story that is handed down from the past that is believed to be based on real people and events.  Tells about a hero or heroine with special powers and admirable qualities.  Describes the hero’s or heroine’s struggle against a powerful force. Legend

  A tall tale is a humorous story about events and characters that are exaggerated.  This story often features a character that is “larger than life”. Someone who is stronger, louder or more extraordinary than a regular person.  The story includes details that make the events and the character’s qualities seem unbelievable. Tall Tale

  A folk tale is a story that has been passed down from one generation to another by being told aloud  They often feature both human and animal characteristics, and supernatural beings  A folk tale usually has a character who represents one or more qualities – for example, greed, honesty, kindness, cleverness.  A lesson about life is presented.   Create an original story using the characteristics of that genre (see details about myth, legend, and tales). OR  You may use another story and modify it to your own. For example, you may keep the names of the characters but change the ending. Getting Started
