September 16, 2013 Mr. Houghteling English III

 Bellringer: Sentence Correction  ETHOS/PATHOS/LOGOS study.  Holly Robinson Peete likes breakfast.

 Two to three times a week, we will complete bellringers featuring common usage and mechanics problems for students.  For each sentence, you DO NOT need to copy the incorrect sentence. Instead, please rewrite the sentence correctly on a sheet of paper.  I will collect these bellringers on Fridays (5 POINTS per sentence).

 When you make corrections, you can demonstrate your own style by doing the following four things: COMBINE / REARRANGE / EXPAND / SUBTRACT  In addition, make any other changes to the sentences as needed.  Please label the sentences correctly.

M.1. Girl’s and woman in ads shows concern about there bodys’, there cloths’, there home’s, and the need to attract a boy or man. M.2. many commonly excepted idea’s about appearance for exemple, that skin should have been blemish free and teeth is bright white— are not absolute truth’s.

M.1. CORRECT Girls and women in ads show concern about their bodies, their clothes, their homes, and the need to attract a boy or man.

M.2. CORRECT Many commonly accepted ideas about appearance—for example, that skin should be blemish-free and teeth bright white—are not absolute truths.

 What you are going to do is to attempt to find elements of ETHOS, PATHOS, and LOGOS from the three texts we have studied so far:  “The Price of Happiness”  “A Unique Take on Beauty”  “Drugs, Sports, Body Image, and G.I. Joe”

“The Price of Happiness” “A Unique Take on Beauty” “Drugs, Sports, Body Image, and G.I. Joe” ETHOS PATHOS LOGOS ETHOS PATHOS LOGOS Use quotations, paraphrases, or summaries to describe the rhetorical appeal you find. Also, please cite the paragraph number from which you found the rhetorical appeal.
