Many Ways to Get Involved There are plenty of ways to become a member of the Relay For Life team! You can… Start a Relay team or join thousands of existing teams! Start a Relay team or join thousands of existing teams! Become a committee member! Become a committee member! Walk survivor laps! Walk survivor laps! Donate or Fundraise! Donate or Fundraise! Or even help set up for the event in your town! Like I did !

Setting It All Up Planning committees are always looking for as much help as they can get, don’t be scared, they can surly use your help! I have helped to set up stages, booths, tables, gates, etc. over the past few years at my local event! It’s a great way to help your community and have a great time with neighbors! Not to mention the stories others share that will touch your heart. Not to mention the stories others share that will touch your heart.

Why I do It I became involved with Relay For Life through my moms job, Central Virginia Bank, every year they set up local teams and participate in the Relay For Life of Chesterfield event. Although my efforts may be easily replaced by others, the quality of people surrounding me made me feel that my efforts were greatly appreciated. This hospitality was a big factor upon returning the next year. This event brings together a whole other meaning of community service. I love doing it.

My Local Event Every year the Relay For Life Event is held around the beginning of May or June, at James River High School. Although traditionally the event is meant to be outside, it always goes on, rain or shine. The Relay is broken down into four main events: Opening Ceremony Survivors Lap Luminairia Ceremony Closing Ceremony The event lasts all night, into the morning, with many families pitching tents and camping out with the whole family!

Relay For Life Every year millions of dollars are raised by people donating and volunteering for these events! The events take a lot of planning and setting up, but it certainly is worth it. Although the event is a memorial for some, overall it is a celebration to the hope of one day beating cancer! Although this year I will be away for the event, I look forward to providing whatever services I can, because I know they are greatly appreciated. For more information about Relay For Life, visit the website on slide #2 and see what you can do it help!
