doc.: IEEE m January 2013 Sangsung Choi(ETRI) Slide 3TG4m OVERVIEW OF 15.4m Overview of 15.4m Group – The IEEE Task Group 4m (TG4m) is chartered to specify a physical layer for and to enhance and add functionality to the existing standard MAC meeting TV white space regulatory requirements. Scope of Standard – This amendment specifies a physical layer for meeting TV white space regulatory requirements in as many regulatory domains as practical and also any necessary Media Access Control (MAC) changes needed to support this physical layer. – The amendment enables operation in the VHF/UHF TV broadcast bands between 54 MHz and 862 MHz, supporting typical data rates in the 40 kbits per second to 2000 kbits per second range, to realize optimal and power efficient device command and control applications. Purpose of standard – The purpose of this amendment is to allow wireless networks to take advantage of the TV white space spectrum for use in large scale device command and control applications.

TG4m 4TV was approved in September – The 1 st meeting was held in Okinawa. Technical Guidance Document (TGD) discussed and finalized – Three meetings in Nov at Atlanta, Jan at Jacksonville, and Mar in Hawaii Call for Preliminary Proposals and Call for Final Proposals – The Calls closed on May 6, 2012 and on July 9, 2012 respectively with 4 final PHY Proposals & 4 final MAC Proposals Proposals merged into five areas in Sep – Five documents adopted as baseline documents for standard drafting First drafting done by editors in Nov The final draft for TG4m comment resolution is being done by editors in Jan. 2013
