 Language: Arabic  Religion: 90% of all people are Muslim  Life Span: 73 years  Ethnic Groups: a majority of people are Egyptian; there aren’t many immigrants

 Current President: Vacant. However, the most recent president was Hosni Mubarak who held office from October 1981 to February  Republic  3 branches of government: ran just like our Judicial, Legislative, and Executive branches.

 National Democratic Party: has had dominating power for a long time.  Other parties include: National Progressive Unionist Group New Wafd Party Tomorrow Party Socialist Liberal Party Influential groups: Muslim Brotherhood, National Association for Change, Kifaya, April 6 Youth Movement.

 6 year term  Determined by popular vote  Every citizen in Egypt over 18 must vote or they will be charged with a fine.

 Gross Domestic Product: $6,200 (per capita)  Agricultural Products: corn, cotton, rice, wheat, fruits, vegetables, and cattle.  Industrial Products: textiles, food processing, tourism, chemicals.  Imports: machinery, foodstuffs, chemicals, and wood.  Exports: oil, cotton, textiles, metals, processed food.

 Two really big problems going on currently in Egypt:  Currently U.S. troops have been in Egypt trying to keep them moving peacefully into a Democratic government style.  Poverty is really bad in Egypt therefore high crime rates and illegal drug usage are major problems.
