MS3 presentation 2.5D matte painting

Main goals Make a matte painting, improve my paintingskills. Take the matte painting in to a 3D world and make a short clip when you fly over the landscape.

Why did I pick this project? Inspierd by Mickes project last year. I have always liked cool environments and matte paintings. So it really felt like the right thing to do to make a 2.5D Matte Painting.

Software Photoshop – Mattepainting. Maya – Modeling, add particle effects. Fusion – Put everything together. Adobe Premiere – Soundeffects.

The final matte painting

What have changed under the project? At the beginning I planned to paint everything by hand. But after MS1 I decided to take allready existing photograps and paintings and then try to fit them together in a nice way. At first i decided to make rain-particles in fusion, then I changed to snow-particles, and then I changed again back to rain, cause I couldn’t get the snow to look as good as I hoped. And I also made the particles in maya instead of fusion, cause I thought it looked better. And I skipped the fire, cause I couldnt get it to look so good that i hoped.

The old storyboard 1.Camera fading in pointing down move forward over water. 2.Camera tilt up, you can se the waterfall and some trees. 3.Camera swoshing over the waterfall, and glides over the landscape.

The new storyboard 1.Camera fading in going up the stairs. 2.Camera tilts up, you can se more of the stairs. 3.Camera tilts up till you see the firetower and the ”entrance” to the matte painting. 4.Camera swoshing by the fire and through the stonecircle and the whole landscape will be shown.
