who In 1663 king Louis xiv declared new France a royal province. The king sent an army and thousands of French people to settle the area. Rene-Roberts older brother Jean was a priest living in the town Montreal. The land was perfect for fur trading. People living in new France were missionaries, farmers , fur traders and explores. The catholic church owned land near Montreal. It was also open to attacks by Native Americans. The catholic church granted Rene Robert a outside Montreal. 1643 de la Salle was born . who

Who continued De La Salle was born in Rouen France. 1687 de la salle got killed by angry settlers. De la Salle was born in Rouen France. In return he agreed to invite other French settlers to join him. Rene-Robert wanted to impress his friends in New France. He began using the sieur de la salle which means lord of de la salle.

what He was in the military. He fought against the Native Americans in 1688. He came home and became an explorer. And went to North America.

When He started exploring when he was 26. La Salle made many exploring trips in 1671-1673. He explored Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario in 1679. In 1681-1682 la Salle went to search for the mouth of the Mississippi river. In 1684-1687 he explored farther south down the Mississippi river.

Where He explored the Mississippi river and the Ohio river. He was sent by king Louis xiv to travel south from Canada and down the Mississippi river to the Gulf of Mexico. La Salle traveled down the Illinois river to the Mississippi and cautioned all the way south to the golf of Mexico. La Salle set sail for New France in Canada. In 1677 he was in France again and obtained patent to build forts, explore la Salle, Henry Tonti, and there small crew reached the mouth of the Mississippi river. The river flowed into the Gulf of Mexico and La Salle knew he and his crew had reached the goal. He explored the Niagara river , great lakes, Detroit river , lake St. Clair, St. Ignace ,green bay Wisconin , St. Josphe river and the Illinois river. And he explored southern Michigan and the Michilimackinac.

Why He found the northwest passage because he wanted to go to North America. He was looking for rivers that floes to the pacific ocean to find the northwest passage. La Salle explored because he wanted to claim Lausanne and the Mississippi river for France.

How His skill with languages helped him speak with Native Americans. He began trading fur with the Native Americans. Two groups of Native Americans lived near. The Algnonies were allies of the French. The Iroquois were the enemies of the French. The Iroquois agreed to make peace with the French settlers. During the winter of 1668 La Salle let some Iroquois to stay on his land.
