During the school year, the Elementary Math Committee was charged with evaluating the current math resource (EM) to determine if it was aligned to the new Common Core Learning Standards. After a thorough review, the committee unanimously found significant discrepancies and requested a review of alternative resources. Resource Review (Everyday Math)

Mathematics Common Core Standards Greater emphasis on fewer topics at greater depths Attention to specificity & clarity, less ambiguity Coherent articulation of standards across grades Concept Development and Procedural Fluency BASE 10 Number & Operation & Algebraic Thinking Rigorous content by means of higher order thinking Composite of strategies from High Achievers

 Make sense of problems - persevere in solving  Reason abstractly and quantitatively  Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others  Model with mathematics  Use appropriate tools strategically  Look for and make use of patterns & structure  Attend to precision Mathematical Practices

Committee Work Focused on the Six Shifts in Mathematics  Focus  Coherence  Fluency  Deep Understanding  Application  Dual Intensity

 In June of 2011, a committee comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators was charged to review new math resources that were aligned to the Common Core Learning Standards. New Resource Review Committee:
