Presentation transcript:

Summary This study has been able to answer: Research Problem: – The ability of nurses to perform specific tasks affected by the inadequacy of workforce include factors like patients being exhausted from being interviewed by different persons, and medical conditions or medications - any of which can impair the patient’s ability to objectively observe the skills of nurses. – Behavoir of nurses towards the patient is not affected by inadequacy of workforce. – The satisfaction of the patient regarding the bedside care given to him/her by nurses is highly satisfactory.

Summary Hypothesis – Inadequacy in the nursing workforce will yield a low level of satisfaction of patients in terms of bedside care given by nurses in a particular hospital. In this study, inadequacy of nursing workforce does not yield a low level of satisfaction.

Summary Objectives – The demand for nurses in private hospital has been able to supply by Human Resource Department, as quantified by same number of vacancies for nursing positions been replaced. – UERMMH have a low turnover rate. The average tunure of their nurses is 3 to 5 years. – Nurse/patient ratio in Medicine wards ranges from 1:10 to 1:14 – Based from Nursing Service Department, 45 out of 170 nurses (26%) work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary – The state of satisfaction of patients attended to by nurses in the participating hospital using the proportion of satisfied population, in terms of: Behavior of nurses – 83.33% from the charity ward and 93.55% from the pay ward patients were satisfied on how the nurses expressed professionalism. – 83.33% from charity ward and 90.32% from Pay ward patients, perceived nurses to have considered their whole individual and their personal situations

Summary – 70% of charity ward and % of pay ward patients were satisfied in regards to the facilitation of learning by nurses. – 73.33% from charity ward patients while a 74.19% satisfaction rate was acquired from pay ward patients upon evaluation of proper counseling, skills-related tasks – there were more dissatisfied charity ward patients than satisfied patients in Attending to needs”. – However, in terms of monitoring, communication and safety, patients in both wards are highly satisfied. The adequacy of nursing workforce does not have a great impact on the state of satisfaction of patients.

Conclusion Both the Medicine Charity and Pay wards of UERMMH, had inadequate nursing workforce for their respective average admissions but despite this 80.33% of all the participants were satisfied with the quality of bedside care received from the nurses. Findings: “despite the inadequacy, nurses can deliver their tasks to a degree that is perceived as satisfactory by the patients”.

Recommendation For future similar studies, we recommend – A larger sample size, specifically computing sample size for association. – For better correlation, different hospitals may be compared. – Any presence of inadequacies in workforce should be correspondingly correlated with patient satisfaction on nursing bedside care.

Recommendation - Other medical students from teaching hospitals and non-teaching hospitals all over the Philippines perform this study to be able to have a more accurate generalization on the effect of nursing migration to the quality of care provided. -To include other wards such as surgical, obstetric, etc.

Recommendation -To do studies regarding the quality of care provided by nurses employed in clinic of schools and companies in order to give generalization of the entire population of nurses. -Different versions of the questionnaire be used to suit the vernacular or primary language of a particular province, if this study would be employed in that province.
