Design Progress Allen Ellis 18-September-2012

Current design has 2 RING PLATES (upstream and downstream) connected by a radial distribution of PMT FRAME PLATES, with a rolled CYLINDRICAL SECTION to house the Mirror Assembly. DOWNSTREAM RING PLATE RADIALLY DISTRIBUTED GUSSETS UPSTREAM RING PLATE PMT FRAME PLATE Rolled Cylinder (houses Mirror Assembly) Radially distributed GUSSETS hold dimensional stability between CYLINDRICAL SECTION and Downstream RING PLATE. STATUS : Drawings released.

ENTRY DISH: Core: low density FOAM Skin: CARBON FIBER Core is machined foam rings, stacked and covered w/Carbon Fiber inside and out. ENTRY CONE: Mostly CARBON FIBER with thin FOAM CORE at thicker downstream portions. Formed over a foam mold made from stacked machined rings. Spoke Retainer Block (3 included in Cone Assembly) STATUS : Drawings released. In-house fabrication started.

STATUS : Drawings submitted for review. Upstream Spoke Retainer Ring Downstream Spoke Retainer Ring Spoke Retainer Block (installed on Entry Cone) Free ends of SPOKES have bonded ball shank and floating adjuster nut. Carbon Fiber SPOKES are bonded to Retainer Rings. Upstream Retainer Ring forms bonding surface for Entry Window. Moeller Cup provides similar feature for Exit Window. Moeller Cup

WINSTON CONE: Being manufactured. Mandrel delivered and inspected for surface quality. Light Monitor System: Internal fiber optics separate from PMT harness. Integrated mounting. FIBER OPTIC STATUS : 15 Drawings ready for review. 2 Drawings need updating.

FACET BONDING FIXTURE: MIRROR FACETS assembled on tooling (jig) made of polystyrene foam laminated to 1-1/4” aluminum tool plate. Each FACET BLOCK is independently clamped via isolated vacuum channels Jig is comprised of 12 wedges screwed to 8’ x 8’ granite table. Close-up at Facet #3 Facet Assembly Jig STATUS: Drawings released.

STATUS: MIRROR SUPPORT ASSEMBLY drawings: Submitted for review. SUPPORT RING: Core: low density FOAM, Skin: CARBON FIBER Main Ring is formed from multiple sections and covered w/Carbon Fiber. Extensions are foam core blocks covered w/ Carbon Fiber and bonded to Main Ring. Adjustable links support MIRROR ASSY at SUPPORT RING EXTENTIONS SUPPORT ASSEMBLY: Is attached to completed MIRROR w/ extending foam blocks (Bridges). Marriage of SUPPORT RING to MIRROR is performed on ASSEMBLY FIXTURE. After bonding, MIRROR can be lifted out of ASSEMBLY FIXTURE by handling the SUPPORT RING only. View of Mirror mounted inside HTCC

EXIT WINDOW: design encompasses: 1.A Cylindrical Section of the FRAME / BOX 2.AWNING 3.EXIT WINDOW Film. Cylindrical Section has access to the Mirror Adjustment Links. AWNING supports the window OD. MOELLER CUP supports the ID. The EXIT WINDOW Film is made from a Mylar-Tedlar- Mylar (Dymat) composite film similar to that used on an INFN LTCC. AWNING: Core: low density FOAM Skin: CARBON FIBER Is bonded to the face of Cylindrical Section. Is sized to allow for access or removal of the MIRROR ASSEMBLY. STATUS: Drawings submitted for review.

CONTROL PMT: Shielded Individual fiber optic PATCH PANEL: Lemo connectors. Internal patch cables. CONTROL PMT EXHAUST GAS STATUS : Drawings ready for review.
